TRAIL DESCRIPTIONS:

The Nordic ski trails at Milan Hill State Park were created in September 2008. These trails are designed by John Morton, a two time Olympian cross-country biathlon skier and professional trail designer. He brings state of the art trail design to the state park. To appreciate the quality of the trail design, visit his website: www.mortontrails.com.

Core Loop – This trail is 3.5 km and travels in a counter clockwise direction when looking at the trail map. Trail junctions #1 through #6 are located progressively on the core loop. The Core Loop is the easiest of all the trail loops at the park. The longest and most difficult portion of the Core Loop is at its start, from the main skier parking lot to the cabin.

First Extension Loop – This trail departs and returns to the Core Loop at trail junction #2. It has an immediate challenging, curvy, descent followed by a significant climb. Novice skiers should exercise extreme caution on the descent and expect a cardiovascular challenge on the subsequent ascent.

Second Extension Loop – This trail leaves the Core Loop at the trail Junction #5 and ascends to the fire tower area. It is currently incomplete and contains two-way skiing in the ascending and descending portions of the loop.

Third Extension Loop – This trail leaves the Core Loop at Junction #6 and ascends steeply to the fire tower area. It returns to the main skier parking lot by a rapid, twisting and challenging descent. Novice skiers will be cardiovascularly challenged by the ascent and should exercise extreme caution on the descent.

Additional skiing (Lollipop Trail & Beaudoin Pass) – This is two-way skiing on private property. The trail departs the Core Loop on the right just before Junction #1 and descends rapidly. Novice skiers should exercise extreme caution on the descent and expect a cardiovascular challenge on the subsequent ascent. Beadoin pass starts at lower parking area and loops around to connect with end of Lollipop trail. This is a great trail for Novice skiers with excellent mountain views.
